Retro Revival: Vintage-inspired Swimwear Making Waves this Season

Designer swimwear and beachwear have always been an essential part of the fashion industry, with each season bringing new trends and styles to the forefront. This year, there has been a resurgence of retro-inspired designs that are making waves in the world of swimwear.

From high-waisted bottoms to bold prints and vibrant colors, these vintage-inspired pieces are perfect for those looking to add a touch of nostalgia to their beach wardrobe. We had the opportunity to speak with several designers who will be featuring retro-inspired designs on their websites this season.

One designer who is incorporating retro elements into her swimwear collection is Sarah Thompson, founder of Sun & Sea Swimwear. Sarah draws inspiration from classic 1950s silhouettes and prints, creating pieces that evoke a sense of timeless elegance. “I love playing with vintage shapes and patterns,” she says. “There’s something so charming about that era that I try to capture in my designs.”

Sun & Sea Swimwear’s upcoming collection features high-waisted bikini bottoms paired with cropped tops reminiscent of pin-up style swimsuits. Bold polka dots and floral prints adorn these pieces, adding a playful yet sophisticated touch. Sarah emphasizes the importance of quality materials and craftsmanship in her designs, ensuring that each piece not only looks stylish but also feels comfortable and supportive.

Another designer embracing retro vibes is Alex Carter, creator of Waves Vintage Beachwear. Alex takes cues from 1970s surf culture, infusing his designs with laid-back Californian spirit. “I’m all about capturing that relaxed vibe of hanging out on the beach during the golden age of surfing,” he explains.

Waves Vintage Beachwear’s collection showcases colorful one-piece swimsuits with plunging necklines and open backs, reminiscent of iconic Bond girls from ’70s films. Striped patterns in bold hues like mustard yellow and turquoise transport wearers back to sun-soaked days by the ocean. Alex pays close attention to detail in his designs, using sustainable fabrics that not only look good but also minimize environmental impact.

In addition to individual designers incorporating retro elements into their collections, we spoke with Mia Gomez from Seaside Chic Boutique about how they curate a selection of vintage-inspired swimwear brands for their website.

“We’ve seen a growing interest in retro styles among our customers,” Mia shares. “People are drawn to the nostalgic charm these pieces bring.” Seaside Chic Boutique offers a range of brands known for their throwback aesthetics, such as RetroWave Swim Co., which specializes in ’80s neon-infused designs inspired by Miami Vice.

RetroWave Swim Co.’s line includes high-cut one-piece swimsuits adorned with geometric shapes and neon accents – perfect for those looking to make a statement on the beach or at pool parties this summer. The brand also offers coordinating cover-ups featuring oversized sleeves and ruched detailing for added flair.

As we enter peak beach season, it’s clear that retro-inspired swimwear is here to stay – at least for now. Whether you’re channeling your inner Marilyn Monroe or embracing your inner bohemian surfer chick, there’s sure to be a vintage-inspired piece out there waiting for you.

With designers like Sarah Thompson, Alex Carter, and brands like RetroWave Swim Co., offering modern interpretations of classic styles from decades past, it’s easier than ever to add a touch of nostalgia to your beach wardrobe while still staying on-trend.
