Fashion Brands Collaborate with LGBTQ+ Organizations to Showcase Inclusivity in Swimwear

As the world continues to become more accepting of the LGBTQ+ community, it’s important for fashion brands to showcase their inclusivity. One area that has often been overlooked is swimwear and beachwear. However, in recent years there have been collaborations between designers and LGBTQ+ organizations or individuals which has helped bring visibility and diversity to this market.
One such collaboration was between Outplay, a gender-inclusive swimwear brand, and Athlete Ally, an organization dedicated to championing LGBT athletes. The collection featured bright colors and bold patterns with a range of sizes for all body types. It also included pieces like compression shorts designed specifically for transgender men who may feel uncomfortable wearing traditional swim trunks.
Another notable collaboration was between queer designer Nicolette Mason and Target’s Ava & Viv line. The collection featured vibrant prints and flattering silhouettes that catered to plus-size women in the LGBTQ+ community. Mason spoke about her inspiration for the line saying “I wanted every piece to feel like a statement whether you’re at the beach or just hanging out by the pool.”
Swimwear giant Speedo also got involved with their own Pride line featuring rainbow-colored swimsuits designed for all genders. They partnered with Stonewall Community Foundation donating $25,000 from sales of their Pride collection towards supporting vulnerable members of the LGBTQ+ community.
But it’s not just big companies getting involved – small independent brands are stepping up too! Gossip Swim collaborated with drag queen Miz Cracker on a colorful swimsuit line inspired by her glamorous style. Similarly, TomboyX created a capsule collection titled ‘TomboyX Loves Queer Joy’ which was designed in collaboration with grassroots queer organizations across America.
These collaborations aren’t just about creating fashionable swimwear – they’re also about representing marginalized communities and offering them visibility within mainstream markets. By working together these brands can create products that are both stylish but also functional – catering towards different body types or gender identities.
One designer who is leading the charge in inclusivity when it comes to swimwear is Mara Hoffman. Her latest collection features pieces that are designed to flatter all body shapes and sizes with a wide range of prints and colors. She also includes models from diverse backgrounds in her campaigns, showcasing the beauty of different races, sizes, and genders.
It’s not just about representation either – brands need to be actively supporting the LGBTQ+ community through their collaborations. For example, Outplay has donated a portion of their sales towards Athlete Ally initiatives which helps support LGBT athletes around the world.
Overall there’s been great progress when it comes to inclusivity within swimwear but there’s still more work to be done! It’s important for designers and brands alike to continue collaborating with marginalized communities and creating products that cater towards everyone. By doing so they can create fashion-forward pieces that are functional, inclusive, and above all – celebrate diversity!
