Why Appliques on Swimwear Are Completely Unnecessary and Impractical

Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to address a topic that has been long overdue – the infamous appliques. You know what I’m talking about – those little pieces of fabric or jewels that designers sew onto swimwear and beachwear to make them “fancy.”

I’ll admit, at first glance, some of these appliques can be quite beautiful. They sparkle in the sun and add an extra pop of color to an otherwise plain bikini or one-piece swimsuit. But let’s not kid ourselves; they’re also completely unnecessary.

Firstly, let’s talk about the practicality (or lack thereof) when it comes to swimwear with appliques. The whole point of swimwear is for it to be functional so you can enjoy all your favourite water activities without feeling weighed down by heavy fabrics or embellishments. Appliques are neither light nor airy; instead, they weigh down your swimsuit and make it harder for you to move around comfortably.

Applique lovers will argue that their precious designs enhance their overall look on the beach or poolside but do we really need anything else other than our killer confidence? Not only do these pointless attachments restrict movement but they often have a scratchy texture which can cause irritation on delicate skin- now who wants that?

Another issue with applique adorned swimwear is its maintenance. Beach wear should be low maintenance – throw on your suit and go soak up some sun! However, when you add in intricate designs like dangling chains or pompoms which require gentle care during washings its just another thing added onto our list of things we would rather not deal with.

Furthermore, why pay more money for something so impractical? Swimwear can already cost an arm and a leg as it is without including more frivolous details into the mix. Appliqued suits tend to have higher price tags due to their added adornments despite lacking any real benefits towards functionality.

Another argument that applique enthusiasts make is that adding these designs to swimwear allows for more creative expression. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m all for self-expression and creativity but not when it comes at the cost of practicality or comfort.

Furthermore, there are already countless options for expressing one’s style via beachwear without resorting to appliques- from bold prints to unique cuts and fits. You can mix-and-match pieces in creative ways or even opt for a monochromatic look which has been making waves as of late. So why bother with something so impractical?

Finally, let’s talk about the environmental impact of appliqued swimwear. The fashion industry is already notorious for its wastefulness and fast-fashion practices which harm our planet through pollution and water waste. Adding unnecessary appliques only compounds this problem by requiring additional resources for production – resources that could be better used elsewhere.

In conclusion, while they may look pretty on the shelf (or Instagram), there really isn’t any good reason to choose an appliqued swimsuit over a simpler one in terms of functionality or sustainability. So next time you’re shopping for your beach wear needs, think twice before reaching out those flashy suits!
